Reasons Why Mindfulness Should Be Part of Your Life

Most people would agree that the modern-day lifestyle is a really hectic one. You are constantly doing something or the other while at the same time facing the countless stresses of life. And you wake up every morning to do it all over again. It is no secret that this state of being is not sustainable in the long run. We are only human and we have our limits. So it is important that we find ways to maintain the stresses.
This is where mindfulness comes in. It is a practice of intentionally focusing on your experience of the present moment. It might not seem like much, but those who practice it and make it a part of their life, eventually realize the significance of this seemingly simple exercise. In the world that we live in, mindfulness has become more of a necessity. And there are good reasons why.
1) It Helps Stop The Mind's Chatter
The human mind is like a machine that never stops. To get an idea of how active our brains are, consider this fact: an average person has about 6,200 thoughts a day. This effects a persons mind massively, especially when you realize that most of the thoughts we have are either about the uncertainties of the future or the mistakes of the past.
Mindfulness involves bringing your focus to whatever you're doing in the present moment. The nature of the activity doesn't matter. Mindful eating, for instance, involves focusing all your attention on the food and the act of eating. This essentially stops the mind's chatter, which can be beneficial in more ways than one.
2) It Enhances Your Focus
Electronic devices such as mobile phone’s and internet have made our lives more convenient than ever, but they come at a cost. They have filled our lives with countless distractions that eat away at our attention leaving little time to focus on things that actually matter. Without focus, the pursuit of any goals or dreams in life can be greatly hindered.
Regular practice of mindfulness can help greatly in this regard. It can enhance your focus and train you to avoid distractions with little to no effort. If you think about it, it only makes logical sense. Mindfulness is all about training your brain to bring your attention to a single point - the present moment. The more you do it, the better you become at it and are able to apply it to all aspects of life.
3) It Helps You Appreciate The Little Joys of Life
Due to the fast-paced lives that we live, we often fail to notice the immense beauty that surrounds us. We fail to recognize that life is filled with countless little joys that are available for us to enjoy at any given moment. The laugh of our family and friends, a coffee date with a friend, warm summer nights, night time drives, and many more are all little joys of life that make all the toiling and striving worth it.
Mindfulness helps you appreciate these little joys. When you are mindful each day, you are able to take pauses, even if it is for a few seconds, to just appreciate what you are experiencing with your senses. Being mindful each day will enhance your concentration, clarity and compassion. Learn to accept and be kind to yourself and loved ones- it is a part of your life.
